There are a multitude of circumstances in which a motor vehicle accident can occur. However, with certain collisions, such as those that take place in the early hours or involving only one vehicle, authorities may be more inclined to suspect the presence of impairment. A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving following a recent accident that took the life of another person in Tennessee.
The incident is said to have occurred at around 3:45 a.m. on a recent Sunday when a vehicle suddenly veered off the road. After leaving the road, authorities claim the vehicle proceeded to strike a nearby utility pole before rolling over and coming to a rest in the middle of the road. The driver and a passenger both suffered injuries in the incident, and police have advised that a second passenger was pronounced dead soon thereafter.
Although no information was provided as to whether field sobriety or breath tests were administered, the driver of the vehicle was taken into custody and charged with DUI. Such an incident can be a difficult thing to experience, and it can stay with a person for the remainder of his or her life. Being accused of drunk driving can be a daunting experience, and a conviction for similar charges could alter a person's life in various ways.
The penalties for a conviction for drunk driving are serious, and only increase in severity should a collision take place, especially one that proves fatal. When accused of a similar crime, a person may find it advisable to consult with a defense attorney for guidance in making informed decisions. An attorney can help a client in Tennessee gain a better understanding of what to expect in the process, and if a conviction cannot be avoided, assist in pursuing a lesser sentence during legal proceedings.
